Enabling Action: Recognising World Ventil8 Day

November 7, 2024

Ventilation is key to achieving healthy buildings and healthy lives – whether it is where you work, live, study or spend your leisure time.

One of the positive outcomes of the Covid pandemic was increased attention to the critical importance of maintaining clean, ventilated air systems in buildings to minimise or prevent the spread of disease and other pathogens.

Being able to breathe clean indoor air is crucial. The mission of World Ventil8 Day – an annual initiative supported by government, industry and academia worldwide – is raising awareness of the role ventilation plays in reducing exposure to air pollutants and infectious diseases.

Research indicates that a properly ventilated indoor space provides the basis for better performance and productivity, helps people sleep better, and reduces unhealthy conditions such as mould, damp and bad odours.

World Ventil8 Day takes place this year on Friday 8 November. This year’s theme, ‘Enabling Action’ aims to not only raise awareness of indoor air quality but to push for meaningful, lasting change in the construction industry by spotlighting the need for high-level policy changes and encouraging grassroots action.

For building owners and facility managers, it is the ideal opportunity to assess your own building’s ventilation health and gain a better understanding of the range of technologies and systems available to ensure a balance between air quality, comfort and sustainable energy use. Having an effective ventilation system should be a strong consideration in your journey towards Net Zero.

If you have ever felt tired at word and lack concentration, poor ventilation could be the cause. The buildup of carbon dioxide in your office may well be a contributing factor.

Studies have shown that better ventilation can help concentration, productivity and performance.
