The Victorian Government committed $447.5 million dollars to the Box Hill Hospital Redevelopment Project which saw a major new building constructed adjacent to the existing hospital complex; delivering expanded operating theatre facilities, diagnostic services, outpatient clinics and staff facilities.
Managing Contractor, Baulderstone, appointed A.G. Coombs to provide mechanical and mixed hospital services to the new Box Hill Hospital facility. These included design validation and coordination responsibilities, and the fabrication, installation, commissioning and maintenance of building systems and technologies including HVAC, medical gases, pneumatic tube transport system, the Building Management and Controls System and a new tri-generation plant, with the redevelopment targeting the equivalent of a green four-star environmental rating when complete.
Five large multi-service risers were assembled in A.G. Coombs’ off-site integrated prefabrication facility and shipped to site for installation. Use of laser survey units to accurately and quickly lay out services significantly reduced the extent of on-site drilling and working at heights and thereby substantially improved workplace health and safety, accuracy and productivity.
The hospital was officially opened on 12 August 2014.
