Walk for Truth Reaches Canberra — Advancing Conversation and Understanding

May 28, 2026

A.G. Coombs proudly supported the 2026 Walk for Truth as part of its Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan — contributing to a five-week, 800+ kilometre journey from Naarm (Melbourne) to Canberra calling for national action on truth-telling for First Nations communities.

Led by former Yoorrook Justice Commissioner, Kerrupmara and Gunditjmara man Travis Lovett, the walk departed Melbourne’s Parliament House on 19 April and arrived in Canberra on 27 May, marking the beginning of National Reconciliation Week.

Along the route, the Walk for Truth engaged metropolitan and regional communities including Thornbury, Wollert, Seymour, Benalla and Wodonga, creating opportunities for storytelling, reflection and meaningful dialogue.

Partnering to Advance Reconciliation

Kinaway Chamber of Commerce, a long-time partner of A.G. Coombs, reached out seeking support for the walk. A.G. Coombs welcomed the opportunity to be involved.

Collaborating with Naarm-based Game Time Coffee – an Indigenous-owned brand that empowers the next generation of Indigenous athletes through its Game Time Sports Fund – A.G. Coombs provided a dedicated support vehicle that was co-branded by Label Concepts and converted into a
coffee van.

The coffee van, fuelled by the Murrungar – Viva Energy/Shell Fuel relationship, was an important truth-telling initiative throughout the Victorian leg of the journey, providing freshly brewed coffee to walk participants and guests at strategic community events along the way – encouraging people to engage in real conversations, yarns and storytelling.

Staff Engagement and Community Impact

A.G. Coombs staff and their families were encouraged to attend events along the route, supporting strong internal engagement.

The Thornbury event at the Aborigines Advancement League on 20 April welcomed some 500 attendees, highlighting strong community participation.

At each stop, the Walk For Truth initiative created opportunities for genuine engagement, with conversations unfolding naturally throughout the events.

Delivering on Our Reconciliation Action Plan

Participation in the Walk for Truth reflects A.G. Coombs’ ongoing commitment to delivering measurable outcomes aligned with our Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan including:

  • Relationships — Strengthening partnerships with Indigenous businesses and community-led initiatives.
  • Respect — Supporting truth-telling and creating space for education, understanding and reflection.
  • Opportunities — Promoting Indigenous enterprise and enabling pathways for sustainable growth.

The Walk for Truth demonstrates the power of collective action, reinforcing the importance of listening, learning and engaging with First Nations perspectives.

Initiatives like this highlight the role organisations can play in supporting reconciliation through practical, community-led outcomes.

A.G. Coombs remains committed to contributing to a more inclusive, respectful and equitable future, working alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to create lasting change.
