David Oakeshott from A.G. Coombs Advisory Brisbane will be presenting on Safety-in-Design at The Institute of Hospital Engineering (IHEA), Australia Queensland Branch Mid Year Conference.
Safety-in-Design can be defined as:
The integration of control measures early in the design process to eliminate or, if this is not reasonably practicable, minimise risks to health and safety throughout the life of the structure being designed.
There is now clear onus throughout Australia under the Commonwealth WHS Act 2011 s22 and in Queensland under the Queensland WHS Act 2011 s22 setting out the duty of designers to ensure that plant is without risk to Health & Safety of persons:
Whilst the responsibilities from a legal perspective are clear, albeit not always well known – the practicalities around fulfilment of the obligation are problematic for all elements of the industry.
David’s presentation will provide a detailed overview of this important subject setting out the responsibilities and duties of the various parties involved.
The IHEA event will be held on Thursday the 28th and Friday the 29th of July 2016 at the Victoria Park Conference Centre, Herston QLD.
