The one-day masterclass brings together industry leaders from across finance, sustainability, property and engineering to explore the challenges and opportunities associated with the energy transition. Sessions cover topics including carbon and disclosure trends, investment drivers, building electrification, demand-side flexibility and practical transition planning.
Practical guidance on building electrification
During Session 4, Electrification and key triggers for action, Andrew Bagnall will present on the factors that should inform electrification planning before major investment decisions are made. His presentation will highlight the importance of understanding existing electrical capacity, identifying infrastructure constraints and aligning electrification projects with broader building lifecycle opportunities.
Drawing on A.G. Coombs’ experience supporting clients on their decarbonisation journeys, Andrew will explore why electrification should be approached as a strategic asset-planning exercise rather than simply a plant replacement project. Key themes include understanding actual heating demand, assessing electrical pathways, evaluating space and infrastructure constraints and identifying opportunities to optimise building performance while reducing emissions.
Lessons from a real-world transition project
Later in the day, Andrew Bagnall will return to the stage as part of Session 7, Energy transition projects – case study and discussions, where he will present a case study examining the electrification of a major institutional building. The session will explore practical approaches to reducing emissions, managing infrastructure constraints and aligning lifecycle upgrades with long-term asset strategies. It will conclude with a panel discussion focused on turning transition risk into transition opportunity.
Andrew brings more than 25 years of engineering experience to the discussion. As NSW Manager, he leads a multidisciplinary team focused on helping clients optimise existing building assets, support decarbonisation objectives and progress towards Net Zero emissions.
Continuing the conversation
Andrew Bagnall’s participation follows A.G. Coombs’ contribution to the Melbourne edition of the Transition Risk Masterclass, where Brendan Sadler shared practical approaches to energy transition planning in the built environment.
Together, these presentations reflect A.G. Coombs’ focus on supporting building owners and operators with practical, evidence-based strategies that balance sustainability objectives, asset performance and long-term value.
