NAIDOC Week 2026 — 50 Years of Deadly

July 7, 2026

NAIDOC Week 2026 marks a significant milestone, celebrating 50 years of recognising and honouring the histories, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

This year’s theme, 50 Years of Deadly, honours five decades of NAIDOC Week and the communities, Elders, organisers, artists and leaders who have carried its legacy forward. It recognises the enduring strength, resilience and cultural leadership of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, while reflecting on the contributions that have shaped NAIDOC’s journey over the past 50 years.

NAIDOC Week provides an opportunity to listen, learn and deepen our understanding of First Nations perspectives, experiences and contributions while reaffirming our commitment to reconciliation through meaningful, ongoing action.

Through our Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan, A.G. Coombs continues to embed reconciliation across our organisation through practical actions focused on governance, relationships, respect and opportunities. This includes strengthening cultural awareness, creating meaningful pathways, engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and businesses, and supporting culturally informed workplace practices.

This year’s theme also invites reflection on legacy — the people, communities and movements that have shaped NAIDOC over the past 50 years, and the generations who will continue to guide its future. It serves as a reminder that progress is built through listening, learning, shared responsibility and sustained commitment.

As we recognise this significant milestone, we’re reminded that reconciliation is not confined to one week of the year. It is strengthened through meaningful relationships, continued learning and a commitment to creating a more respectful and inclusive future.
