Built on a history of recognising excellence and achievement within the HVAC&R Industry, the AIRAH Awards honour those who have delivered significant contributions to our industry. This year A.G. Coombs with Aurecon have been recognised with the AIRAH Award for Excellence in Sustainability for their work at the landmark 25 King Street building in Brisbane. The team was also recognised as a finalist in the AIRAH Award for Excellence in Innovation also for 25 King Street.
AIRAH Award for Excellence in Sustainability – 25 King Street, Brisbane.
This award recognises Australian initiatives that have made clear improvements in the sustainability of the HVAC&R industry. The initiatives may be improvements to existing air conditioning or refrigeration systems or the development of new improvements, or in the industry’s delivery of services.
Australia’s tallest engineered timber office building, 25 King has pushed boundaries in design, construction, indoor environment quality and sustainability.
The building’s superstructure utilises a combination of engineered cross-laminated timber and glue laminated timber. It is a commercially viable and more sustainable alternative to steel and concrete construction for mid-scale office buildings
As well as demonstrating the potential future of low to mid-rise construction, 25 King delivers a wellness objective, creating a workplace that is both sustainable and healthy.
The project has achieved WELLTM Core and Shell v1 Certification at the Platinum level, Green Star 6-star Design and As Built v1.1 ratings, and NABERS 6 Star base building Energy, 4.5 Star Water ratings, 3.0 Star NABERS Waste Rating plus Climate Active Carbon Neutral certification.
The challenges presented by this large-scale prefabricated engineered timber construction were addressed through the close collaboration and innovation of Aurecon and A.G. Coombs, delivering a clear model for future HVAC design and installation in this sustainable form of construction.
AIRAH Award for Excellence in Innovation – 25 King Street, Brisbane.
This award recognises significant Australian improvements in the areas of HVAC&R achieved through innovation, including new or significantly improved systems or plant and equipment or processes.
The large-scale prefabricated nature of the engineered timber construction presented a wide range of challenges to the HVAC design and installation teams. Solving these through innovation borne out of close collaboration between the teams provides a clear model for HVAC design and installation in the future application of this sustainable form of construction.
