Inspiring the Next Generation of Engineers

September 19, 2025

A.G. Coombs proudly delivered its Build Your Future STEM workshop at Padua College in Mornington this September, supporting senior students to explore career opportunities in engineering and the building services industry.

Developed and led by a team of A.G. Coombs female engineers and designers, the program is designed to encourage Year 9 and 10 female and non-binary students to consider pathways in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). By combining hands-on activities with real career insights, the initiative highlights the important role diversity plays in shaping the future of our industry.

Sharing Career Journeys

A.G. Coombs graduates from electrical, fire and mechanical engineering disciplines shared their experiences with students, offering practical
advice on:

  • Choosing school subjects and preparing for university.
  • Transitioning into graduate programs and interviews.
  • Building early career skills and industry experience.

Learning Through Practice

Students also took part in group workshops, applying STEM principles to real-world building services challenges across:

  • Mechanical systems
  • Electrical systems
  • Fire protection design

This practical format enabled students to experience the breadth of opportunities within building services engineering and to see how their interests and skills could align with future career paths.

Building Future Talent

The Build Your Future program designed and led by A.G. Coombs technical personnel reflects our commitment to championing diversity, inclusion and the development of future leaders. Events like this not only open doors to STEM careers but also demonstrate the importance of representation and the positive impact role models can have inspiring the next generation
of engineers.
