Tasmania’s former Premier Lara Giddings has helped to launch Aurora Energy’s new purpose-built Data Centre facility in Derwent Park, Hobart.

In what was possibly the most innovative Data Centre development seen to date in Tasmania, Aurora Energy, as a retailer and distributor of electricity services and wholesaler of premium telecommunication services, has combined its extensive fibre network with this new highly resilient Data Centre. The new facility will provide integrated computing and communication services for key Tasmanian businesses across Health, Education, Telecommunications and Government.
A.G. Coombs was appointed as head contractor to design and construct Stage II of the project. Designed using the latest in Building Information Modelling (BIM) technology, and delivered by A.G. Coombs’ Data Centre experts in conjunction with local specialist subcontractors, the project has tripled Data Centre power, cooling and ICT rack capacity. As well as meeting Aurora’s needs, the $8.5 million facility is also providing commercial hosting space for other companies’ technology and Cloud services, for those who are seeking to take advantage of the NBN rollout in Tasmania.
Managing Director of Aurora Energy, Peter Davis, and Aurora’s Commercial Manager Gary Eiszele both expressed their thanks to A.G. Coombs on opening day, with Gary congratulating A.G. Coombs on delivering what it promised and commending the Company on its ability to work with Aurora on a major electrical scope change; a requirement that transpired during construction.
A.G. Coombs is proud to have been involved in the development of this leading Data Centre facility, and congratulates the successful project delivery team.
