Andrew Smith to Share Data Driven Maintenance Expertise at AIRAH’s HVAC26 Conference

March 12, 2026

Data Driven Maintenance will take centre stage at AIRAH’s HVAC26 Conference, with A.G. Coombs’ National Data Driven Maintenance (DDM) and Analytics Leader, Andrew Smith, contributing as a panelist in this key session on Day 2 of the event.

Held on 16–17 Mar 2026 at the Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park, HVAC26 brings together specialists across the Future of HVAC, Building Physics and Big Data & Analytics streams for two days of technical insights and industry discussion.

The Data Driven Maintenance panel forms part of the Big Data & Analytics stream, which examines how IoT, sensor networks and analytics are transforming building operation. The stream explores predictive maintenance, digital twins, fault detection, operational optimisation and the evolution of smarter, more sustainable building services.

Andrew’s contribution is grounded in the principles outlined in his recent A.G. Coombs Advisory Note on Operational Analytics and Data Driven Maintenance (DDM).

In this Advisory Note, he explains how real‑time analytics and predictive tools help detect emerging issues earlier, guide more efficient maintenance planning and improve system uptime — strengthening both operational performance and occupant satisfaction.

The Advisory Note also highlights three foundational areas reshaping asset management across the built environment:

  • Automatic Fault Detection and Diagnostics (AFDD) — early identification of root‑cause issues to reduce reactive maintenance.
  • Building Energy Optimisation (BEO) — detecting performance drift and ensuring equipment operates within optimal parameters.
  • Data Driven Maintenance (DDM) — ranking equipment condition to prioritise maintenance that extends lifecycle and manages cost.

Day 2 provides attendees with full access to the Big Data & Analytics stream, concluding with the conference’s networking function.

Andrew’s involvement reflects A.G. Coombs’ ongoing commitment to advancing data-driven building performance and supporting industry best practice in operational analytics.
