A four-pipe heat pump serves the Sydney Roosters Centre of Excellence. This system can also inject HHW into the base building system during peak operation.
Internal spaces requiring temperature control are served by three air-cooled chillers that provide for a combined cooling load of 4,300Kw.
Whole-of-life analysis of the stadium’s complex annual load profile indicated that an air-cooled chilled water system would achieve the best performance outcome when reviewed against life cycle, maintenance, and operational cost.

We’re excited to once again be recognised for this outstanding project, which was awarded the AIRAH Excellence in Innovation Award in 2023 with and has attracted attention for its groundbreaking energy efficiency, long-term sustainability & operational flexibility.
Standout features of the Allianz Stadium project include:
- Integrated HVAC and DHW systems with an annual energy saving of 18% compared to conventionally designed systems.
- Mixed mode ventilation to atrium areas.
- Natural ventilation to concourse areas validated through CFD wind modelling and scale model wind tunnel testing.
- A heat recovery 4 pipe heat pump that allows heat recovered in the cooling process to be utilised to offset building heating demand for the pool, DHW and space heating.
- Pool hall AHU heat recovery air handling systems.
