A.G. Coombs Lands its 300th Prefabricated Vertical Riser!

December 19, 2017

A.G. Coombs pioneered the application of large-scale prefabricated services frames in Australian building construction. Its 300th prefabricated vertical services riser was dropped into the 839 Collins Street development in Melbourne’s docklands. This 20-level office tower with 38,000 square metres of A-grade commercial space and a 6 Star Green Star rating will include 21 prefabricated frames and is scheduled for completion in 2019 with the ANZ Banking Group its anchor tenant.

A.G. Coombs’ 300th prefabricated vertical riser was dropped into 839 Collins St, Melbourne.

Vertical risers, typically fabricated in 3-storey sections, each the size of a semi-trailer, along with 6 metre horizontal services modules, and plant rooms in whole or in sections, are constructed in A.G. Coombs’ integrated prefabrication facility and transported to site for installation.

On major building projects, A.G. Coombs’ prefabrication methodologies result in the transfer of thousands of hours of complicated site installation into a controlled factory environment, with the need to work at height virtually eliminated. All system components including mechanical ductwork and pipework, electrical, controls and fire protection elements can be installed, pre-tested and pre-commissioned, reducing site time and improving quality, program, safety and system performance outcomes.

Commencing in 2010 with an installation at the New Royal Children’s Hospital in Parkville subsequent large scale installations have included Collins Square in Melbourne, The Doherty research facility at Melbourne University, International Towers Sydney at Barangaroo, International Convention Centre Sydney and Bendigo, Box Hill and Monash Children’s Hospitals.

A.G. Coombs prefabrication methodologies have been recognized by a number of government and industry safety and innovation awards.
