The report highlights the opportunities for commercial buildings to increase their NABERS ratings though energy efficiency measures. Nearly three quarters of Australian office buildings are NABERS Energy rated. Higher NABERS rated buildings typically enjoy higher occupancy rates, lower operating and energy costs, higher rents and valuations. Age is not a barrier with around 24% of offices built pre-2000 being upgraded to 5.5 or 6 Star Energy rating. Around 15% of Australia’s office buildings are Premium or A-Grade with a NABERS Energy of only 4.5 Stars – there are prime candidates for energy efficiency upgrades.
