How long have you been at A.G. Coombs?
I started as a 1st year plumbing apprentice in 2008. So 12 years now.
What were you doing before you started working at A.G. Coombs?
I studied Education at Wollongong University and taught in high schools for a couple of years after that. However, I found myself counting down the days towards end of the term. I quickly realised that wishing my time away wasn’t how I wanted to exist in the world. Going back to Uni didn’t really appeal so I explored other avenues that included on-the-job training.
What’s the most rewarding part of your work at A.G. Coombs?
Problem-solving is the part of my job I enjoy the most. Being able to work through problems that appear impossible at first glance is hugely satisfying. And I also really enjoy being able to learn something new every single day.
What’s the most challenging part of your job?
The challenge is definitely in the time constraints. We have the knowledge, we have the ability. But how do we pump it out to meet the program, that’s the biggest pressure and challenge.
If you could pick one superpower, what would it be?
I couldn’t really pass up the opportunity to fly if it ever presented itself!
What is something you are currently looking forward to?
Definitely looking forward to getting back out on the snow. Not sure if we’ll get the opportunity this year with restrictions, but keeping a keen eye on it.
If you could go back and give advice to yourself at 18-years-old, what would that be?
Be authentically and unapologetically you.
