‘Advancing Women’ Wins 2025 FM Industry Awards for Leadership in ESG

December 10, 2025

A.G. Coombs has been awarded in the 2025 FM Industry Awards for Leadership in Environment, Social and Governance (ESG), recognising the Group’s commitment to gender equity and industry transformation through its submission ‘Advancing Women: An Industry in Transition’.

As a cornerstone of the A.G. Coombs Diversity & Inclusion Action Plan, the Advancement of Women pathway reflects the Group’s enduring commitment to building a more inclusive and equitable building services industry — one where women are empowered to thrive at every level, from apprenticeships and engineering roles to executive leadership and Board representation.

“With women’s participation rates in the built environment sector sitting at just 15%, we cannot ignore the diversity and inclusion challenges that lay ahead — nor our responsibility to be advocates and industry trailblazers in this space,” said Kerry Ryan, A.G. Coombs Group Non-Executive Board Member and Diversity & Inclusion Committee Chair.

What the Judges Said

“Our winner really impressed with quality of their submission and in particular the way that their work has been shared and championed right across the sector. Really inspiring leadership and with impact that we have no doubt will be felt across the industry”.

Recognising Leadership in Action

The FM Industry Awards, hosted annually by the Facility Management Association of Australia (FMA), celebrate excellence across Australia’s facilities management sector. A.G. Coombs’ recognition in the ESG category highlights a suite of initiatives designed to elevate the visibility, capability, and career progression of women across the Group and the broader industry.

Key initiatives featured in the award submission include:

  • Advancement of Women Reference Group – supporting professional growth, retention and visibility of women across the organisation.
  • Women in Leadership Residentials Retreats – immersive development experiences for emerging and established female leaders.
  • Leadership Academy Events – held in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, bringing together female industry leaders and A.G. Coombs team members to share insights and foster collaboration.
  • Mentorship and Allyship Programs – cultivating inclusive leadership and peer support.
  • Professional Development Pathways – including Emerging Leaders, Leading Edge and AIM Women in Leadership programs.
  • Thought Leadership – participation in the AIRAH HVAC Innovation Conference 2025 panel, Pathways to Success, spotlighting female career journeys in HVAC&R.
  • ‘Build Your Future’ STEM Outreach – a school engagement initiative led by four female employees, targeting Year 9 and 10 female and non-binary students.
  • Industry Recognition – Walker Fire Protection received ‘Champion in Diversity’ and ‘Women in Fire Protection’ Awards at the 2025 NFIA National Awards of Excellence.

Progress by the Numbers

Like many technical industry sectors, historically there is a very large disparity between male and female participation rates. While cultural change is at the heart of A.G. Coombs’ approach, measurable progress is a key indicator of impact:

  • 25% of our current 126 apprentices are female, significantly above our industry’s average. In the 2025 A.G. Coombs intake we have employed a further 33 apprentices with 10 (30%) being female.
  • Since 2021 A.G. Coombs has employed 49 engineers – 12 (24%) being female. The 2025 graduate intake has 10 engineers and 6 (60%) are female. Females in the fields of practice suitable for our industry represent around only 7% of graduating engineers.
  • The number of women in senior roles across the A.G. Coombs Group has more than doubled since 2021.

These indicators well exceed industry averages and reflect a deliberate, sustained effort to reshape the gender profile of the building services sector.

A Shared Celebration

The 2025 FM Industry Awards took place on 4 December at Crown Palladium in Melbourne — an event that celebrates the people and organisations shaping the future of facilities management in Australia.

A.G. Coombs extends its congratulations to fellow finalists in the
ESG category.

With a partnership spanning 25 years, A.G. Coombs is proud to support the FMA and its mission to elevate the profile and professionalism of the facilities management industry.
