Championing Culture and Connection Through Cardinia Deadly Day

October 9, 2026

More than 350 Koorie students from 27 primary and secondary schools gathered at Deep Creek Reserve for the 2026 Cardinia Deadly Day, a celebration of culture, community and connection supported by A.G. Coombs.

Bringing together students, educators and community organisations from across the Cardinia school network, the event provided opportunities for cultural learning, relationship building and shared experiences.

A celebration of culture and belonging

Deadly Day creates a space for Koorie students to connect with culture, community and identity while celebrating the strengths, stories and traditions that shape their communities.

Within Aboriginal communities, the term “deadly” is commonly used to describe something excellent, strong or impressive. The event embraces this spirit through activities that encourage learning, cultural exchange and connection.

It also provides an opportunity for the broader education community to deepen its understanding of First Nations cultures and perspectives.

Creating pathways for future generations

A.G. Coombs supported the 2026 Cardinia Network Deadly Day as part of its broader commitment to activations that promote education, inclusion and community participation.

This commitment is also reflected in A.G. Coombs’ investment in skills, training and career development through the Apprenticeship Program and Pathways Program. These A.G. Coombs programs are designed to help young people explore career opportunities, gain practical experience and develop the capabilities needed to build rewarding futures in the built environment.

Looking ahead

Events like Cardinia Deadly Day demonstrate the value of bringing together young people, schools and community organisations to celebrate culture and create opportunities for learning and growth.
