The Dr Chau Chak Wing Building at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) has been awarded the Woods Bagot Award for Best Public Building at this year’s Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation and Excellence Awards.
The national Innovation & Excellence Awards is one of the most prestigious property awards programs in Australia, promoting excellence in design and innovation in the built environment. The Woods Bagot Award recognises excellence in a new or refurbished public building.
Spectacular inside and outside, the Dr Chau Chak Wing Building is a key component of UTS’s $1 billion-plus City Campus Master Plan and provides learning, research and office space for up to 1,600 students and staff in the UTS Business School. The first building in Australia designed by Frank Gehry – one of the world’s most influential architects – it is a physical manifestation of the innovative thinking that underpins the learning and research undertaken by the Business School and UTS as a whole.
A.G. Coombs delivered mechanical and HVAC services to this world-class, cutting edge building. The building features smart air conditioning systems, which switch off when offices are empty for an extended period of time, and energy efficient central plant, helping to make it one of the many award-winning developments that has raised the bar on sustainability.
A.G. Coombs is proud to have been involved in the project and congratulates the Dr Chau Chak Wing Building on this significant achievement.
