A Guide to Testing and Commissioning Stairwell and Passage Pressurisation Systems

White Paper

Paul Chasteauneuf

February, 2002

Stairwell and passage pressurisation systems are an important component of the Essential Services in many buildings and the effective operation of these systems for fire isolated exits could mean the difference between life and death in a fire evacuation. Whilst there is increasing emphasis on the correct commissioning and regular testing of these systems they remain one of the more problematic aspects of smoke control systems in buildings. This reference guide to commissioning and testing stairwell and passage pressurisation systems has been prepared by Paul Chasteauneuf of A.G.Coombs Pty Ltd* to assist building services installers and maintainers comply with the requirements of Australian Standard AS/NZS 1668 Part 1 – 1998 Fire and smoke control in multi compartment buildings.
