Project Scope
High quality air conditioning is an essential component for an energy efficient premium grade office building. Installed to the highest quality standards and commissioned by one of Australia’s largest and best qualified specialist in house HVAC commissioning teams the Herald and Weekly Times air conditioning systems have been meticulously tested and set up to provide energy efficient and reliable service for many years to come.
This commercial office tower is air conditioned using a Variable Air Volume (VAV) system. Over 600 VAV boxes were installed, fed with air from Air Handling Units located on Level 5, and Level 35. The largest unit supplies 47,000 litres a second of conditioned air and is over 16 metres in length. Thermal plant is installed at the top of the building. Cooling capacity is provided by two large centrifugal chillers and a smaller screw chiller with a total cooling capacity of 6158 kW, all served by 4 cooling towers. A separate condenser water system is installed for supplementary tenancy cooling with a further 2 cooling towers and 3136 kW of heat rejection. Natural gas fired boilers provide heating hot water and domestic hot water requirements are met by natural gas fired instantaneous heaters.
Safety is a major focus in all A.G.Coombs projects. The installation at Herald and Weekly Times required over 82,000 hours, the equivalent of 47 years; this was achieved without a lost time injury to A.G.Coombs employees. A.G.Coombs is a three time winner of the Master Builders Association’s Award for Excellence in Health and Safety.
