Bovis wins Prestigious Award for Melbourne Recital Centre

8th Nov 2009

Last night Bovis Lend Lease was named National Commercial Master Builder of the Year for its work on the Melbourne Recital Centre and Melbourne Theatre Company project.

The award was presented at the Master Builders of Australia 2009 National Excellence in Building and Construction Awards ceremony held at the Gold Coast in Queensland.

A.G. Coombs is proud to have provided the air conditioning systems and mechanical services for the iconic building which has been recognised as an internationally acclaimed performance venue with state of the art acoustics and architecture.

Complex system design was required to meet the exacting acoustic requirements imposed by the design brief and to cater for the limited space available for standard air conditioning arrangements. Bovis Lend Lease General Manager, Geoff Moore, said “We were very pleased to see A.G. Coombs’ design, engineering and installation expertise applied to the challenges imposed by these constraints, and most importantly, to see that they developed the sound-proofing solutions to meet and exceed the critical acoustic requirements for the project”.

The magnificent building has two carefully crafted performance spaces including the 1000 seat Elisabeth Murdoch Hall and the 150 seat Salon.  Opened in February 2009, the building’s construction was completed three months ahead of schedule and continues to attract a growing number of awards for its architecture and construction quality.

A.G. Coombs’ involvement in this extraordinary building is a significant contribution to the construction of a world-class arts venue that will benefit the Victorian public for generations to come.
